BOOK - RENOIR - No14 - ORAMA PUBLICATIONS

Pierre-Ogist Renoir was born in central France, in the city of Limoges on February 25, 1841.

He was the sixth of seven children of tailor Leonard Renoir and worker Marguerite Merlet. Unfortunately, however, two of his siblings died at a very young age.

In 1844 the family left the house on St. Catherine Avenue (today Gabeta Avenue) and settled in Paris, at first on de la Bibljotek Street and then on d'Arzadeille Street, on the outskirts of Kerameikos. After their neighbourhood was devastated by Osman's urban interventions, the Renoir family moved to de Graviyer Street in the Maré district.

From 1848 to 1854, Renoir studied with the monks of the Christian schools, showing a remarkable inclination towards singing and drawing. His father, however, preferred to direct him towards a more lucrative profession, so he was hired, as an apprentice, in the levi brothers' business, which manufactured porcelain.

At the same time he attended classes at the School of Design and Decorative Arts, under the direction of the sculptor Kayouet, where he studied until 1862. In 1859, while working at the gilbert textile house, his colleagues, impressed by his talent, urged him to devote himself to painting. (From the version)
