BOOK - HERMITAZ MUSEUM / ST. PETERSBURG - No6 - ORAMA PUBLICATIONS

The pin pinnier of Russian museums, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, is home to an excellent and rich collection of art. The most important part of the museum is the art gallery, where in addition great sculptures are exhibited.
The works presented in this volume in chronological order offer a panorama of the history of European art. These are creations crafted by the favorite artists of the tsars and Russian collectors, who oriented their preferences to the most important European schools that extend from the late 14th to the 20th century.
In addition to the works of early painters, the Hermitage proudly possesses one of the most remarkable and largest collections of works of Flemish and Dutch baroque art, masterpieces by Rubens, Van and Rembrandt.
Equally important is the collection of French painting, from Poussin's classicism to Matisse's post-impressionism. Italian art is represented by leading artists of the Renaissance, among them Leonardo, Raphael, Giorgone, Titian, by Caravaggio in the 17th century, by creators of landscape views of the 18th century and finally by Canova.
The German school is present with a smaller but equally remarkable group of works, created by artists from Kranah to Friedrich.
The best version of the English portrait of the 18th century is presented mainly with the paintings of Thomas Ginsborough. Spanish painting, finally, is represented through a journey that begins with El Greco and culminates with Picasso, passing through Velacquez and Goya.
