The core of the PALAZZO Piti in Florence was a rich Renaissance mansion of the 15th century not far from Arnos.
Little by little it expanded, until it became, in the late Renaissance and the Baroque era, a hegemonic residence overlooking the majestic gardens of Boboli. Here lived three dynasties that marked the history of Italy: the Medici, Lorene and Savoy.
Few museum spaces are equally luxurious and impressive. The collections are housed in historic buildings decorated with imposing frescoes, an excellent testimony of the renewed elegance, which is also revealed by the valuable collections of gold objects, jewellery, utensils and furniture exhibited in the Silversmithing Museum.
The Palatina Gallery is the heart of the palace and the works it houses are a representative example of a hegemonic collection of the 17th and 18th centuries. In a magical environment with wonderful frescoes, it hosts furniture and sculptures, as well as important paintings of the Renaissance from Florence and Venice.
Among them stand out The Virgin Mary with the armchair and The woman with the veil of Raphael, but also a significant number of charming works of Titian.
The Artistic European panorama, as far as the 17th century is concerned, proposes the intensely realistic paintings of Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileski and perhaps the most important collection of foreign paintings in Italy, with masterpieces by Rubens, Van and Murillo.
At the Gallery of Modern Art, in continuity with the painterly tradition of previous centuries, the visitor can admire Italian art from the second half of the 19th century, which includes an important group of works in the style of machioyoli, and works of the early 20th century.
