An exceptional artist is presented as part of the painting culture of his time - this is the philosophy of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
It was inaugurated in 1973 and after the recent works it offers today to the visitor a larger and more functional space, thanks to the addition of the building designed by Kiso Kourokawa, which hosts the temporary exhibitions.
The historic Richfelt Building houses, on the other hand, a large collection of paintings, drawings, stamps and letters, objects that allow us to experience the feverish artistic career of Vincent van Gogh, a journey in which art and life are connected in an insoluble way: from his beginning in his homeland Holland to living with his brother Theo, from Parisian experiences to his stay in the south of France - pivotal to his expressive search for color - and his tumultuous relationship with Gogen.
The museum offers an excellent selection of masterpieces that make the visit unforgettable. Among them stand out the Sunflowers, which Van Gogh considered to represent life and light, the beautiful paintings with the orifices and plants, and the famous works he dedicated to rural life. His last paintings are also presented, imbued with deep melancholy, which reflect the sufferings he suffered due to his illness. (From the presentation on the back cover of the book)
