BOOK - MONET - No13 - ORAMA PUBLICATIONS

Oscar Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, at number 45 of Lafit Street, the street that would reappear in its history many years later.

Around 1845 the family (the father trades in colonial species) had to move to Le Havre, a living port on the Norman coast. He spends his childhood close to nature, with a freedom that he enjoys in places seemingly unchanged but in reality changeable, made of the lights and shadows of the north wind. This experience will affect him a lot.

After finishing college, the young Oscar knows his first artistic successes, thanks to his numerous caricatures of the years 1856-1858, which he presents in a store of artistic materials, where, probably in 1858, he meets the first mentor of his artistic life, Ezen Buden, an almost unknown painter, who knows how to guide him in painting by nature:

The young man, indeed, creates a series of small paintings with views of the outlands of Le Havre, which seem at first glance to have been painted on the spot. Buden motivates him to abandon caricature and "study, learn to see and draw, to paint, to make landscapes."

Later Monet will remember that his Buden "pulled a veil in front of his eyes", helping him to understand nature. (From the version)
